When you're #basic but you want to stay healthy

Call me #basic, but I love pumpkin spice season as much as the next girl! Fall is my favorite, especially in Dallas because the weather is perfect and Halloween is right around the corner. Let's pause for a moment so I can brag about my family's obsession with Halloween.

Just wait for this year's costume!

Back to Pumpkin Spice! When you learn what is in the Pumpkin Spice Latte from everyone's favorite coffee shop, it becomes much more difficult to enjoy.  Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power.  Pumpkin is actually really nutrient-dense! Pumpkin is a great source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.  You certainly don't get these benefits from the artificial pumpkin-flavored syrup they put in your coffee.

So for a sweet, pumpkin-y, nutrient-dense snack, check out these Pumpkin Pie Energy Bites from paleogrubs.com.

And now to the OG, the Pumpkin Spice Latte! Here's my recipe:

  • 8 oz black coffee
  • 1/4 cup milk of your choice
  • 1 tbsp organic pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp maple syrup (or more if you want it sweeter)
  • Pinches of-- cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ground ginger OR  1/4 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice

Blend all ingredients together for 30 seconds, pour into your favorite fall mug and enjoy!
